The outdoor recreational opportunities in eastern Idaho are endless thanks to the many state and national parks and monuments. From any of the work stations one can go camping, hiking, mountain biking, or off-roading. World class fly fishing, hunting, backpacking, whitewater rafting, and rock climbing are all available. There are many caves for spelunking, including lava tubes at Craters of the Moon National Monument. Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks are just over the border in Wyoming. During the winter, there is alpine and nordic skiing ranging from small community ski hills to the likes of Jackson Hole and Sun Valley. Ice hockey and snowmobiling opportunities are ample.
Idaho Falls and Pocatello are the consumer hubs of eastern Idaho. Residents of smaller communities from as far away as Pinedale, Wyoming, travel to Idaho Falls to shop. Pocatello is home to Idaho State University. Eastern Idaho Technical College is in Idaho Falls. And Rexburg is the location of BYU-Idaho.
Jackson Hole, Wyoming, is only 2 hours from Idaho Falls. Salt Lake City, Utah, is about 2 hours 15 minutes south of Pocatello. And Boise, Idaho, is a little over 3 hours west of Pocatello. |
