1. You MUST apply between December 1, 2007 and January 31, 2008 to be considered for a job--THAT'S ONLY 2 MONTHS!

2. When you have time go to www.firejobs.doi.gov. This web site is a central location for information about seasonal fire jobs for the Department of the Interior.

3. When you are ready to apply click "How To Apply" from the firejobs website. You will then be directed to www.usajobs.opm.gov. This where you will fill out your application and apply to a specific job. You will have to create an account, so make sure to save your password and login information.

4. What job to apply to?
If you would like to work for the BLM in Idaho Falls, Pocatello or Salmon, apply to the following job announcement number:


DOI-FIRE-2008-004

Make sure to specify WHICH LOCATION YOU PREFER--Idaho Falls, Pocatello or Salmon.

If you have NO PREVIOUS FIREFIGHTING EXPERIENCE, make sure you apply to the GS-02 and GS-03 positions.

5. If at any time you have questions regarding this tedious process, please call us. After you submit your application online, check to make sure it has been received by calling the contact number on the job announcement.

These are not the only positions the Forest Service has to offer. Other temporary and permanent positions will be posted on the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) USAJOBS web site: www.usajobs.opm.gov. Further information can be found by visiting the FSJOBS web site: www.fs.fed.us/fsjobs. You can access these web sites from many locations offering Internet access (e.g., libraries, schools, cyber cafes, job service, friends, family, etc.) and you are encouraged to apply on-line.

The Forest Service uses Avue Digital Services (ADS) as an on-line applicant assessment system. The ADS web site is available at www.avuedigitalservices.com/usfs/applicant.html. The following benefits are available to applicants who apply on-line:

  • Applications will be available for immediate consideration.
  • Receive an e-mail notification of the status of application.
  • Set up a free e-mail account when creating profile.
  • Profile information is automatically entered on each announcement applied to.
  • Able to make changes to applicant profile.
  • Attach electronic documents to application (e.g., transcripts, resumes, DD-214, etc.).
